Change Your Business Life in 5 Minutes
It would be nice if we could just say it’s the economy’s fault and let it go, but that doesn’t fix anything. Now you have said it (how many times??), so now time for action. Good companies were built on incremental action that moves them forward, no giant leaps or major changes in philosophy – simply doing step by step it what it takes to move forward and reach their goals.
Imagine having a new Business life in 5 minutes. New plan, new perspective, new people ready to execute the new plan so that your business rebounds and leaps to the front of the class in your market! Reality is that 5 minutes may not remake your business, but taking 5 minutes to review the checklist below will help you determine what to do in the next 5 minutes to take incremental steps to moving your business forward.
So let’s tear all this apart. Here is a checklist to quickly review (in 5 minutes) that will help place a framework around the change you need in your business life:
1. Great companies have the right people – do you have the right people in place? You may find that some of your people are not the right people. Think about ways to move them on but do not take immediate action until you have developed this plan completely otherwise it could cost money that you do not have to spend at the moment.
2. Do you have an excellent product? Can you improve your product or customer experience? I am certain that if you did not have an excellent product you wouldn’t be promoting right now would you?
3. The only way to make sales and money is to get more customers (new ones) or get your current customers to spend more on your products. What is the plan for this? Do you have a strategy? A marketing plan? Goals set?
4. How much time do you, as the owner of the business, the business leader, spend on the future (1 week down the road, 1 month down the road, 6 months, 1 year etc)? You need to spend some time in the future to plan and be prepared, letting the team take care of today.
It comes down to this: what are you willing to do to attract new customers and incremental sales? This is not an easy exercise. But in the sports industry, they say “no pain, no gain!” A tough economy is about pain, and the companies that can develop and survive in this environment are stronger and learn valuable lessons that will keep them moving forward in the future. So tackle this checklist and take some time out to look in the mirror –it may be messy, but you may find new ideas for product and customer experience improvements, even new products. Results will come and the good thing about this checklist and exercise is it will move you and your business forward – and that is exactly what you want.
